The Jalo Reef form of Cynotilapia zebroides is a small rock-dwelling mbuna endemic to Lake Malawi. Older aquarium literature often lists this locality form as Cynotilapia afra "Jalo Reef". Males develop blue coloration with dark vertical bars; the species is territorial, grazes aufwuchs and also takes zooplankton, and requires a rock-filled aquarium with hard, alkaline Malawi water.
