About

The African banded barb is a striking freshwater fish native to the rivers and floodplains of Central and Southern Africa. Known for its vibrant reddish-orange body adorned with distinct vertical black bands, especially prominent in mature males, it is a beautiful addition to a community aquarium. These active fish are schooling by nature and thrive when kept in groups of 6 or more. They appreciate a well-planted tank with open swimming spaces and good water quality. While generally peaceful, they can be prone to fin-nipping if not kept in a sufficiently large school or if housed with very slow-moving, long-finned tankmates.
