About

The Maylandia callainos, commonly known as the Cobalt Zebra Cichlid, is a vibrant and active freshwater fish endemic to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi, Africa. It is a member of the Mbuna group, known for its distinctive blue coloration and territorial nature. This cichlid requires an aquarium with plenty of rocks and caves for hiding and establishing territories. Like most Mbunas, it is primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae and biofilm in the wild, and requires a diet rich in vegetable matter in captivity to prevent bloat. They are best kept in a species-specific tank or with other robust Lake Malawi cichlids, as they can be aggressive, especially towards conspecifics.
