About

Cyathopharynx furcifer, commonly known as the Featherfin Cichlid, is an elegant and highly sought-after species endemic to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. Males are renowned for their vibrant coloration, particularly blues and yellows, and their greatly elongated, flowing ventral fins (hence 'featherfin'), which they use in elaborate spawning displays over sandy substrates. These cichlids are primarily planktivores, sifting small invertebrates and algae from the water column. While generally peaceful towards other species, males can be territorial with conspecifics, especially when breeding. They thrive in spacious aquariums that replicate their natural rocky and sandy environment, requiring stable Lake Tanganyika water parameters.
