About

Melanochromis johannii, also known as the Electric Blue Johannii or Blue Johannii, is a striking and aggressive mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, Africa. Males display vibrant dark blue to black bodies with electric blue horizontal stripes, while females and juveniles are bright yellow or orange. They are highly territorial and best kept in a species-specific tank or with other robust mbuna cichlids in a large setup with plenty of rocks and hiding spots. Their diet primarily consists of algae and biofilm scraped from rocks, supplemented with small invertebrates.
