About

The Iodotropheus sprengerae, commonly known as the Rust Cichlid or Rusty Cichlid, is a small, relatively peaceful Mbuna cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi. Known for its rusty orange to purplish body coloration, it thrives in rocky environments. While generally less aggressive than other Mbuna, it can be territorial, especially during breeding or if kept in insufficient space. It's an omnivore, primarily grazing on algae and small invertebrates. A well-decorated tank with plenty of rockwork and caves is essential to provide territories and reduce aggression.
