The Protomelas spilonotus tanzania is a vibrant and relatively large cichlid originating from Lake Malawi. Males display stunning metallic blue bodies with red or orange fins and distinct black spots along their lateral line, especially during breeding. Females are typically duller in coloration. They are generally considered one of the more peaceful Haps from Lake Malawi, but still exhibit typical cichlid territoriality, especially towards conspecifics and similarly shaped fish. They thrive in a well-filtered aquarium with plenty of open swimming space, rockwork for territories, and a sandy substrate. A varied diet is essential for their health and color.
