A large, intelligent Amazonian cichlid with a laterally compressed body and strong social behavior. Juveniles are spotted while adults develop a dark wedge-shaped body marking. Uaru consume substantial plant material and need a large aquarium, excellent filtration and compatible robust tankmates.
