About

Turkis (Turquoise) Peacock Cichlid is a colorful freshwater fish from the Peacock Cichlid group (genus Aulonocara). It is popular in aquariums because of its bright turquoise-blue body with metallic shine and relatively peaceful behavior compared with many other African cichlids. Males show the strongest colors, while females are usually duller. They typically grow to about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) and prefer warm, clean water with rocky hiding places. Origin: Peacock cichlids are native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. However, the “Turkis/Turquoise Peacock” sold in aquariums is usually a selectively bred aquarium strain, not a specific wild species.
